Position: ICT Support Engineer

Job description


As an ICT Engineer, you will design, implement, and manage the organisation’s information and communication technology (ICT) systems. This role involves a comprehensive understanding of hardware, software, networking, and security protocols. Following established codes and standards, install, maintain, and enhance electrical systems and components, including MV & LV components, fuses, lights, and wiring;

Key functions include:

  • Technical Support: Provide first-level technical support for end-users, promptly addressing hardware and software issues. Troubleshoot problems and escalate when necessary.
  • Install and configure software applications and updates as needed.
  • User Training and Documentation: Conduct training sessions for staff using ICT systems and software applications.
  • Configure and manage network devices seamlessly in a secure and efficient network infrastructure. Implement and optimise networking protocols for seamless communication.
  • Ensure quality of Appolonia Telecom services, IP assignment provisioning, core network configuration, DNS setup, monitoring, and graphing for various customer network services.
  • Support individual customers with point-to-point VPN, direct internet access, and BGP services.
  • Network and Systems Administration: Manage core network, including infrastructure elements like firewalls and perimeter routers.
  • Tier-3 Support and Continuous Improvement: Provide tier-3 support for co-location, customer backup network, and ISP services.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and propose/implement improvements to enhance network performance, reliability, and security.
  • Security and Compliance: Implement and maintain network security measures to protect against unauthorised access and cyber threats.
  • Infrastructure Design, Planning, and Project Management: Ensure scalability, security, and high availability in infrastructure design and planning.
  • Lead and participate in infrastructure projects, ensuring timely and successful completion. Collaborate with project teams and stakeholders to define project requirements and deliverables


Hard skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field with six years of relevant experience.
  • Certifications: CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician, Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or equivalent (a plus).
  • Strong networking knowledge (TCP/IP, VLANs, BGP, OSPF) and security practices.
  • Familiarity with hardware, software, basic network concepts, and cybersecurity principles.
  • Strong independent problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication with end-users, team members, and stakeholders.
  • Leadership skills for presenting products and ideas in a business-like manner.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
